In a head-to-head battle today between Wolverhampton Wanderers’ former dynamic striking duo, ex-England international Steve Bull emerged victorious over Andy Mutch, after leading his team of fans to a narrow 4-2 victory in the inaugural Multipower Wolves Legends Experience Cup, at the Sir Jack Hayward training ground.
Leading sportsfood company, Multipower had teamed up with Wolverhampton Wanderers FC to stage the event, which they both hope to make a regular fixture on the calendar. Fans got to spend a day in the company of the legendary strike pair, which included a morning of training drills before things turned competitive with an eight-a-side match. Both Bull and Mutch showed glimpses of their former skills with some clinical finishing to remind all of their impressive goal scoring record whilst at Wolves.
Andy Mutch commented, ‘It was a great day with the lads and it was nice to get out on the pitch for a good laugh which had a bit of competitiveness about it as well, which is what you like to see – there were only a couple of tackles which flew in! Shame I was on the losing side which I never like, but no, it was a nice atmosphere out there today with a good bunch’.
Wolverhampton Wanderers FC currently lies seventeenth in the Premiership, with a huge derby match against Birmingham City FC this Sunday at St Andrews. Having narrowly lost 1-0 in their previous meeting, Wolves will be looking for a victory against their eighth-placed neighbours as they continue their fight against relegation.
Steve Bull commented, ‘It was disappointing seeing the guys lose against Crystal Palace, and they’re really going to need to pull their sleeves up to get something out of the Birmingham game this weekend. I think playing-wise there isn’t much of a difference between the Championship and the Premiership, but guys like Doyle just need to work hard and get a bit of luck to get themselves back on the score sheet. There’s enough other poor teams in the Premiership for us to survive this year and at the end of the day if we finish where we are at the moment the fans will be delighted, and then we can rebuild over the summer.’
