The Marie Curie Great Escape Challenge

The 2010 Marie Curie Great Escape Challenge was the third in a series of ten events supported by sports nutrition brand Multipower as part of our Target 2010 challenge. Click here to find out more about Target 2010. The series comprises some of the UK's most exhilarating outdoor endurance events from mountain biking, to trail running, to urban orienteering and triathlons.

The 2010 'Great Escape' was set in the stunning surroundings of the Brecon Beacons. As with the last Target 2010 event - the Harlech Triathlon - the weather was very kind - "boiling!" - for this challenging team event requiring brains and brawn - a trend we hope will continue for the remainder of the Target 2010 challenge events. The Great Escape Challenge comprises of running / cycling / rowing and other sporting tasks, as well as a range of problem solving challenges and initiatives to challenge all of the teams under the pressure of competition combined with the fatigue of their physical exertions. This is no 'lightweight' challenge, taking over nine hours of physical and mental focus, requiring the very best in terms of teamwork and planning from the four person teams.

The winners of the 2010 event - living up to their name of 'Top Cats' (pictured top of page) - were from Caitlin Group Limited, the insurance underwriters who held off the challenge of Gerald Eve LLP, chartered surveyors and property consultants. The full results of the event are available to download here, though it is fair to say that in this style of 'race', it is the team bonding and skills learned, combined with the fund raising achieved, which is just as important at the final leaderboard.

So, was the event a success? Judging by the response of the competitors involved, no doubt at all about that. This is just a small selection of the event feedback:

"A challenging set of events set in glorious National Park designed to test your physical and mental stamina. An excellent weekend."
Gerald Eve

"A full on, really enjoyable mental & fitness challenge with a few surprises thrown in!"
Wood for Trees Ltd

"It is one of the most challenging, adventurous, fun and rewarding team building experiences I've ever taken part in."
Aleltho

"A gruelling event that is equally as challenging as it is fun."
Astralis Group Plc

"A fantastic opportunity to take part in a great event, meeting some briliant people, in spectacular surroundings for an amazing cause!"
Barclaycard
